As expected with most Old Men, Elmers vision isn’t all that great and he’s pretty much deaf. But, as his foster says, you don’t have to worry about him being scared by fireworks or thunder! He’s completely toothless , but it doesn’t slow him down when it comes to putting on his feed bag. He eats dry small kibble without any issues and loves to have a little bit of canned mixed in. Did you say Treat? This boy gets super excited when you offer him a soft treat. He isn’t 100% house trained but is making progress as his foster continues to work on that. If his foster is gone for longer periods, he is very content wearing a belly band with no issues. This senior likes to sleep most of the day away so he can get a good nights sleep. He has not been crated at all with his foster , so unsure how he would do. He will sleep in his dog bed, but would prefer to be in the big bed with his people if allowed.
Elmer will need a fenced yard to run around and play in when the urge hits him. He does NOT do well on a leash , will dig his heels in and stay right where he is . He does well with other dogs, and would probably love to have a laid back companion, however , he is not crazy about the young whipper snappers that want to play . He gets treated like a King and carried up and down stairs if he needs to change floors. He has not been around children or cats since being in his foster home, so unsure how he would be.
Elmer would make a great companion for someone who is home most of the day, but he also does well being left alone for a period of time.
If Elmer sounds like he would be a good fit for you and your family , please fill out an application.
Elmer is being fostered in the Nashville area.
